Emma Viskic’s critically acclaimed Caleb Zelic novels have been published worldwide

The series has won numerous prizes, including a Ned Kelly Award and an unprecedented five Davitt Awards. Her debut novel, RESURRECTION BAY, was also shortlisted for the UK’s prestigious Gold Dagger and New Blood Awards, and a Barry Award in the US.

She consulted extensively with the D/deaf and hard-of-hearing communities in order to create the character of Caleb who is profoundly deaf. Her attempts to learn lipreading were short-lived, however she continues to study and enjoy Australian sign language (Auslan).
Emma was formerly a classical clarinettist and bass clarinet player. She studied at the Victorian College of the Arts in Australia and the Rotterdam Conservatorium in The Netherlands. Her musical career ranged from performing with José Carreras and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, to playing at an engagement party that ended in a brawl.

She lives in Naarm/Melbourne and is currently working on a novel inspired by her family history.
